Imported from Japan in 2016 where the climate is dry and the
roads are unsalted, this is an immaculate classic Mercedes
presented in youthful condition.
Covered an incidental warranted mileage of 39,000 this 190 is as
fresh as a daisy, immaculate engine bay, door inners, boot,
immaculate cabin, clean corrosion free and drives like a new car
mechanically.
The colour glacier white is rather rare and very period
complimented perfectly with the navy bluecabin.
It presents as it left the factory with a great specification:
air con, power steering, 4 electric windows, passenger
side electric mirror, original fitted carpet mats.. it's all
present and in spotless order.
Condition - Show Condition
It’s not a restored car, rather a beautiful original survivor.
Mostly original paint throughout which retains a wonderful finish. The
paintwork is like a coat of enamel.
The interior is in excellent condition as pictured with no wear
indicators at all. This example can be driven right into your
garage and brought back out when its time to visit the shows.
The engine bay is pristine, as is the boot. Starts first time
every time with a recent battery being fitted. The
operation of the gears and brakes etc. are superb, the
suspension is like driving on air, soft and supple and has real
grace. The steering so fluid and precise. Mechanically as good as it gets, you will not find better. The
interior is just super clean. You could eat your dinner off any
surface, it is totally spotless. The body of note has three
touched in stone chips on the osr door and a little ding on the
osf bumper corner, not bad for 38 years old.
Wheels & Tyres
The wheels are 15" MB classic alloys and they are spotless, no
kerbs only minimal marks. Good set of tyres with deep treads,
all in good order and a spare alloy in the boot.
The W201
These cars were made during the best years of MB and are vastly
superior to the inferior build quality C
Class that replaced it. They were truly over-developed which is
why they commanded such high prices when
new. Mercedes continue to trade of this reputation despite it
peaking in this era, simply put, there is
nothing like it. In fact, it’s a miracle that Mercedes actually
managed to manufacture it at all retaining
a margin of profit such are the high levels of engineering,
quality materials and detail present in putting
it all together. Certainly could not be done today, mainly as
these materials and processes are no longer
employed in the mass production car business or it would be a
non-profit exercise.
From January 1974 to January 1982, Mercedes spent over £600
million researching and developing the 190 and
subsequently said it was 'massively over-engineered'. It marked
a new venture for Mercedes-Benz, finally
giving it a new smaller model to compete with the likes of the
Audi 80, BMW 3 Series and Saab 900.
Investing your money in this car is a safe prospect. The build
quality and craftsmanship on these eras of Mercs will never be
seen again. Values of good original W201 models are rising year
on year.
Complete Package
A complete package including 2 original factory keys, a really
great reg number, there's the full owners pack, carpet over mats
to protect the carpets, the spare wheel and tools, there's
warning triangle and the original first aid which is unopened.
