I was reflecting today as I wafted along that what we have here
is arguably the best saloon car ever made. A bold statement,
however, indulge me for a moment and allow me to qualify it or
at least apply some reason to the notion it might be. It’s
widely agreed that the BMW 5 series is the epitome of what a
comfortable executive saloon car should be. The five series of
course spans many generations now however it is also widely
agreed by many that claim to know their stuff, that the E39 was
the high water mark, a millennial car from the golden age of
motoring.
The E39 had many legendary engines assigned to it, though the
M54B30 inline six petrol engine in this car is favoured by many
as being one of the best six cylinder ever to grace any vehicle,
and a case is to be made in saying its superior to the V8
M62B44. In this rare instance this car is paired to the ZF 320F
S5-32 5-speed manual transmission, which transforms the appeal &
the drive. All wrapped in M sport package and it's also a slick
top (no sunroof!). Possibly the best car ever made?
X303 UFC
First registered and pre delivery inspected by North Oxford BMW
on 17th October 2000.
The V5 shows only three previous owners, it came direct to me
from the owner of twenty one years, he purchased in 2004 at
approx 40000 miles from the dealer as part of the approved used
BMW programme. In that time has lavished it with care &
attention and its been garaged and is wonderfully preserved.
Totally hpi clear - no finance - no bumps. The current MOT is
valid until 16th June 2026.
Complete with a thick file of paperwork (summary below), two
remote keys, one master key, a full owner’s manual wallet set,
full carpet mat set, a complete toolkit, optional roof storage
bars, first aid kit, luggage straps, cd changer with cartridge,
and full-size spare alloy with tyre.
Finished in this attractive colour with factory options this is
rather an elusive model, crucially with the manual gearbox. This
rare example presents in remarkable condition with nothing at
all altered, it has come from an enthusiasts home and hopefully
finds another as it is now to be cherished for the future, ideal
collectors’ car.
The E39 M Sport
The M-sport model featured the items below as standard, these
items were
of course available as an option in other model years. The
package involves
numerous suspension powertrain and trim changes. The manual
gearbox is
a smoother alternative to the full blown M5. The smooth delivery
of the power is the best BMW ever managed; it truly did hit the
sweet spot.
Service History £5K in Bills
A relatively low warranted mileage of 92000 with original
service booklet.
All supporting bills covering the last eighteen years are stored
in a file
and a quick tally up shows about 5K being spent on routine
maintenance.
In addition, there is an entire paper MOT history with no gaps
which is unusual.
The most recent service was carried out in June this year, which
included oil & filter, air filter, and a new door hinge. Other
works this year include a
new rocker cover gasket, a front anti roll bar link and new
number plates.
Condition
The paintwork is without incident and has been loved, its
beautiful and in
recent years been used as a third car and weekend whip and taken
out in dry weather. The interior still feels special and smells
as new. The carpets and plastics the same, nothing has been
compromised. I am more than familiar with the corrosion
issues that these models can suffer from if not cleaned and
stored correctly, none. The many images hopefully illustrate the
condition. There is no rust on it, looks fab.
Alloys
Alloys in immaculate condition, unmarked as they have just been
professionally refinished to a high standard. Premium Dunlop
tyres all round. New centre caps and M badges. Spare is a
full-size alloy.
