1966 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 Mk III BJ8 (Phase II) Extensive History File - Heritage Certificate Owners Manual Personally Signed By Donald Healey Superb Condition Pure British Cool The quintessential British open top sports car, the kind that you see driving down country lanes on the way to a country fete driven by a man in driving gloves and a flat cap – pure British cool. The Austin Healey 3000 was a man’s car in a time when men were men – big powerful engine, heavy steering and butch looks. On a summer's evening, with the straight-six on song and the long hood pointing the way to adventure the Big Healey does have a presence that many people respond to, which is quite evident when out and about. It brings smiles and comments from many onlookers, and invites conversation. Oh, and to look down that long, beautiful bonnet and to hear that deep throaty growl emanating from the twin tipped exhaust it is arguably one of the best notes in the car world. Key to the appeal is the lusty, six-cylinder soundtrack, the 3000 is one of the most evocative British classics around and always will be. KKR 403E - Built 23/06/1966 This final model is the 3000 MkIII phase 2 BJ8, produced between 1965-1967. Also colloquially referred to as the Big Healey. The 3000 BJ8 is the most desirable of the production Healeys. This model is the most desirable & collectible with its relative ease of use i.e wind-up windows, overdrive, pull up hood, wrap around laminated windscreen, adjustable steering column & the lovely wooden dash. Consequentally this model will appreciate best. An older restoration however completed to a very high standard and very tidy in all areas and barely used since. Equally straight and excellent underside which is so important. One of the last Healeys made, complete with a British motor industry heritage trust certificate, this is a matching numbers car. Factory Spec - Wire wheels - Overdrive - Adj steering column - Laminated windscreen History Extensive paperwork, secured in a bespoke custom leather wallet with chrome plaque bearing reg and chassis number. Complete with a detailed photographic older restoration however covered virtually no miles since. An honest, well-maintained car, or one that's been correctly restored, can be a much better deal than a marginal car that will need extensive work. Keep in mind that, with values rising sharply, some questionable examples might have been dressed up for quick resale, not so here. A rare drivers handbook is present signed personally by Donald Healey himself in Jan 81. It has been in long term ownership for 17 years by a collector and motoring enthusiast though rarely used and properly stored. At this age it is of course now thankfully MOT and tax exempt. The history file is pretty vast, some of which I have attempted to illustrate in the large image gallery, including historic correspondence between owners, this is what we like to see. I have just had it fully inspected by a qualified old school workshop who embraced it with open arms and spent hours pouring over it commenting among many other things on how remarkably clean and corrosion free the underside is. It has been finely tuned and currently fuels sparks and breathes perfectly with excellent oil pressure maintaining correct water temperature also, it can be used with confidence where conditions allow. It drives wonderfully too, the gear change and clutch are tight and the engine is very powerful with perfect oil pressure, a new Bosch battery has been fitted as a matter of course. Its in jump in turnkey condition and will pass any inspection, which is welcomed, a very well sorted and priced late Healey wanting for nothing making it a shrewd investment.
