One owner from new, Mr Hill purchased his new 300E from
Greenoaks Mercedes, Surrey on 20th of October 1990 and kept it
all this time, little used in dry weather and garage stored when
not in use. The original bill of sale is present; £25,420,
trading in a 1986 230E to make the purchase of this one. The
service file includes all the historic service invoices from the
Mercedes dealer and all receipts from 1990 to present day. It
has recently been serviced and the current MoT March 2026 has no
advise items. The MoT history has only ever had items such as
tyres and a spring or a similar wear items, there is no history
of corrosion whatsoever which is hardly a surprise because it
looks fresh out the packet underneath.
W124
This is one of the very last of the proper Mercedes ever made.
These vehicles are quite simply a joy to drive. The high
standard of build quality and durability defined the reputation
that MB still exploit today despite that it peaked at this
moment.
This was the finest luxury car in the world, it was built to a
standard that other manufacturers could only gasp at, setting a
benchmark of engineering excellence that has not been surpassed
to this day. Due to the high cost of German engineering and
build quality, the W124 was designed to last many miles, with
awards actually given and worn by high mileage versions.
4Matic
Mercedes All Wheel Drive system, 4Matic is Mercedes answer to
Audi Quattro. Go anywhere in any weather, the W124 4Matic is a
capable winter tool, it'll cross a country in the harshest of
climates and through the driven snow if required. This was one
of the first cars to debut the Mercedes 4wd system in a saloon
car, not many were sold making this a rather peculiar and rare
beast.
The standard RWD 300E is 180bhp, however the 300E 4Matic makes 188bhp as it
has no catalytic converter. Predominantly RWD, it sends torque
to the front wheels when required, up to a 50/50 split ensuring
the best traction.
The only visual cues Mercedes provided to the nature of this
hidden technology is the slightly higher suspension and the
4Matic badge on the boot lid, otherwise the untrained eye would
never know.
Condition 100% free of corrosion
This particular example is as good as you'd hope to find and the
entire car has an incredibly appealing ambiance. Unrestored, but
looked after with sympathy and heaps of love and care, very
obviously always been cherished. The underside is as factory
fresh as a 35 year old unrestored car can be, we have taken a
full suite of images and a video underneath the car to show the
condition as words here simply cannot do it justice. We can
confirm it is 100% rot free and so clean you would struggle even
to find a sample to swab test. Under the bonnet is in similar
bright condition.
The cabin is a delight, unworn pristine clean carpets and so
little used even the foot pedals look like new. It's bright,
clean and every part of it exudes low mileage condition.
A general walk around this car and a study of its history will
leave you in no doubt that you are looking at one of the best
used Mercedes left of it's kind. Fully electric seats, electric
aerial, one touch sunroof, all the correct period specification.
I have probably overstressed the message already, however this
is a very, very nice Mercedes and anyone would be absolutely
delighted with what they see. It's not quite perfect, I think I
spotted a couple of touched in stone chips on the paintwork and
there are some marks on the grey plastics but there is not a
single blister on any of the wheel arches and it is verified
100% corrosion free underneath. Now that
is not bad for a 35 year old car.
Wheels & Tyres
Immaculate original Gullideckel alloys with original centre
caps, each one unmarked and shod with Goodyear 195.65.15 tyres,
all in as new condition.
